Subject: Clarification and Assurance Regarding British Creative Institute’s Operations and Readiness to Support SEND Students
Date: 24 December 2024
Dear SENAR Team,
Following recent communications, we write to clarify the position of the British Creative Institute (BCI) and to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to serving the needs of SEND learners throughout the Midlands area. We are grateful for the guidance provided by the Department for Education (DfE), which has confirmed that BCI, as a post-16 institution, operates legally without requiring further registration as an independent college.
We also take this opportunity to formally inform you BCI has continuously operated within the boundaries of legal compliance and remains fully committed to providing high-quality education for SEND learners.
Email to BCI dated 24 December 2024 provides clear guidance:
Further, the DfE’s policy statement on prosecuting unregistered independent schools supports this position. BCI is not required to register, as we are a specialist SEND post-16 college.
Following recent challenges, BCI has fully restored its operations, including teaching services and online platforms. Our website is live and accessible, reflecting our broad curriculum offerings and commitment to transparency. We are ready to enrol up to 50 students immediately, showcasing our capacity to address the region’s urgent need for quality SEND provisions.
Our educational services will formally reopen on 6 January 2025 without interruption, and we invite the local authority to inspect our premises at any time to confirm our readiness.
BCI holds accreditations from respected awarding bodies, including Ascentis and Highfield Qualifications. Recent audit inspections from Ascentis highlighted our compliance and excellence in delivering accredited courses tailored for SEND learners. Additionally, our partnership with LinkedIn Learning has enabled us to provide students access to a dedicated platform offering industry-standard training that is uniquely designed for BCI.
These accreditations and resources demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the highest educational and employability skills development standards.
